What are the symptoms ?

The MAIN duty of any computer Technician is to RESOLVE the issue. However, before that can be done, the problem or problems have to be recognized. In cases involving No Post, No Boot, No Video, be careful to first distinguish which one is the actual problem.

No Power Symptoms

+ No power on the Power Button even when the power cable is plugged into a power source...

Desktop or Laptop ?
......DESKTOP
.......Where is the computer connected to a power source ?
O Wall Outlet ?    O Power surge Protector ?  O Power Strip ?
++ Plug the computer directly into the wall outlet.
++ Try other electrical outlets or try another appliance that works and see if that other appliance works on the same electrical outlet.
++ Reseat the power cable.
++ Try swapping power cables with the monitor power cable.
++ Does the computer have a Power Supply Self-Test ?
++ Is there light on the motherboard ?
++ Turn off, pull the plug, try removing the RAM...test for power on the Power Button.

( Why power surge protector ? There are times when the computer that tries to get power from the Voltage Regulator -- is actually not getting enough power due to multiple hardware plugged into the regulator. If the ampere requirement is insufficient for the total requirements of all the connected appliances, it is possilbe to have insufficient remaining power for the computer to draw. Check your pc required Wattage as well as the wattage requirement of the other appliances. Is the total requirement capable of being provided by the Voltage Regulator ? )

PORTABLE
++ Is there light on the AC Adapter ?
++ Does the laptop turn on with just the battery ?
